The Nassau County Fire Commission held a special meeting at Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Company 5 firehouse with the business of appointing a new Chief Fire Marshal for Nassau County after the retirement of former Chief Fire Marshal Scott Tusa. The Fire Commission unanimously approved the appointment of current Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro to the position of Chief Fire Marshal of Nassau County. In front of his family, friends, coworkers and firefighters from across the county, Chief Uttaro was sworn into office by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
Chief Uttaro began his career in the fire service in 1989 as a member of Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Company 5. Chief Uttaro rose through the ranks serving as 2nd Lieutenant (1994-1996), 1st Lieutenant (1996-1998), Captain (1998-2000), Deputy Chief (2001-2008) and Chief of Department (2009-2010). While rising through the ranks in Manhasset-Lakeville, Chief Uttaro began working at the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office in 1999. In 2013, Chief Uttaro was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief Fire Marshal which he served until his promotion to Chief Fire Marshal.
We would like to congratulate Chief Uttaro on his promotion to Chief Fire Marshal of Nassau County and wish him the best of luck and success in his new position.
