On August 18, 2026 the Sussex County Technical Rescue Team was alerted to assist Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company for a trench rescue collapse with injuries. Upon arrival, one victim was found in an unsecured trench with injuries. Rescue technicians worked quickly to secure the trench allowing for a safe extrication. The rescue was successful due to the cooperation of numerous agencies including Seaford Volunteer Fire Department, Greenwood Fire, Blades Volunteer Fire Company, Georgetown Fire, Sussex County EMS & HazMat, DSP Aviation and Kent Spec Ops.
