The annual Hob Ryan dinner was held on April 23, 2017, at the Cheswold Fire Company’s James R. Roy Memorial Hall. The event was attended by 308 fire company and ladies auxiliary members, and their guests. The firefighters with 40-plus years had a total of 5922 service years. The auxiliary members with 25-plus years had a total of 3160 service years. Combined the total service years amounted to 9082.
The firefighters with the most service years were Earl Ridley of Station 43 with 73 years, and Wallace Hudsonof Station 45 with 75 years.
The auxiliary member with the most service years was F. Elaine Jones of Station 78 with 69 years.
It was a wonderful afternoon and each year as the count changes with additions and member losses, those present are glad to greet each other with a hug and a smile.
The 24th Hob Ryan Dinner is scheduled for April 15, 2018.
