Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services held their annual Deputy Fire Coordinator Training/ Meeting at the Medford Fire Department on March 14, 2024, for the western Suffolk coordinators. FRES Commissioner Patrick Beckley welcomed all of the fire coordinators in attendance and thanked them for their continued dedication to the program.

Assistant Chief Deputy Coordinators Jack Blaum and Scott Dalrymple discussed operational policies, response procedures and recent updates to the DFC applications that are available.

Technical Rescue Coordinators Will-iam Xikis, Bill Stio and Ed Vinogroski provided a very informative overview of an excavation incident that occurred recently in the Head of the Harbor area of St. James.

Director Joe Trzepizur of the Suffolk FRES Office of Emergency Management discussed the many assets and resources available to the coordinators during an emergency incident or pre-planned event.

FRES Chief of Communications Greg Miniutti discussed the much-heralded drone program that is available to the coordinators for response to emergencies, large scale events or seashore/shark over-watch.

Phil Thompson of the Suffolk County Water Authority discussed the water distribution system, zone pressure capabilities of the infrastructure and fire hydrants within their jurisdiction.
