“SMOKEY” THE APTLY-NAMED CAT SURVIVES FIRE AFTER BEING RESCUED BY VIRGINIA FIREFIGHTERS

Hanover Fire-EMS units, along with area mutual-aid, responded to the 8100 block of Shady Grove Road for a reported Structure Fire. Smoke was seen exiting from the side of the house and an upgrade for a Working Fire was declared.

Crews arrived to find a kitchen fire that was quickly extinguished. All occupants safely escaped and one (1) pet was rescued. The incident was marked under control. The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating and no injuries were reported.

After extinguishing the kitchen fire, Smokey the cat was rescued by Ashcake Truck 413’s crew and Mechanicsville Medic 407’s crew provided oxygen and support. Smokey has made a full recovery! Yes, yes…The cat’s name is Smokey.
