The Smithtown Fire Department was toned out for a residential structure fire on September 17, 2016, on Eckernkamp Drive. Responding units were met with a fully involved two-story house. The three residents in the home and their dogs were able to safely exit. Smoke detector alarms woke up the family. Responding were Smithtown Chiefs Murphy,  Landrigan, Fitzpatrick and  Diecidue. Mutual aid was provided by Kings Park, St. James, Hauppauge and Commack Volunteer Ambulance.
