The volunteer fire companies of Scullville and Bargaintown responded to Lighthouse Lane for a report of smoke in a dwelling. Scullville Assistant Chief Vernon Cruze arrived to find smoke showing from the roof of a two-story, single-family wood frame. Scullville Ladder 1535 deployed a line in the front door to the second floor and attempted to locate the fire and begin knockdown with Scullville Captain Pat Flynn assuming the role of operations. Command had a second line taken off 1535 and stretched to the B side and put into service. Command then had Scullville Engine 1533 lay 900 feet of supply line. At 1623, a second alarm was requested, bringing Cardiff, Farmington, Sommers Point and West Atlantic City. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked, firefighters re-entered the structure and completed extinguishment, salvage and overhaul.
