On September 5, 2016, Roxana firefighters responded to a major house fire on Creekhaven Drive in The Refuge, a development located between Selbyville and Fenwick Island. The Roxana Volunteer Fire Company was initially alerted for a porch fire just before midnight. The first arriving units discovered that the entire front of the house was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke was billowing from under the eaves on one side of the house. Fire companies from Roxana (Station 90), Bethany Beach (Station 70), Millville (Station 84), Selbyville (Station 88), Frankford (Station 76) and Ocean City, Maryland (Station 700) responded. Several other companies were called for standbys. The stick-built home fire was extinguished after about four hours.
