On December 22, 2017, Schenectady firefighters battled a two-alarm fire on Elder Street after smoke was reported on the second floor of the house. Units arrived to smoke showing from the upper floors. Firefighters entered the home, but after minutes of searching, could not find the seat of the fire. The house had been modified with false walls and partitions making it difficult to pinpoint the fire. After an evacuation signal was given, firefighters were able to get the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.
