The volunteer fire companies of Bargaintown and Scullville responded to South Mount Airy Avenue on August 9, 2016, for a report of a shed fire with explosion. Bargaintown Assistant Chief Will Hancock arrived and established command for a structure fully involved at the back of the property. Arriving at the same time was Bargaintown Safety Officer Ken Badger who assumed the role as operations officer. Operations approached the structure and discovered it was a pool house and chicken house on fire. First-arriving Bargaintown Engine 1526 dropped a five-inch LDH at the end of the driveway, which was fed by Scullville Engine 1532. Firefighters then stretched a 300-foot preconnect off Engine 1526 and had them go to the far end of the chicken coop. The fire was knocked down quickly. An extensive overhaul in extreme heat and humidity brought out the Ladies Auxiliary who provided refreshments. Command also requested the EHT Fire Official and the cause was under investigation. Also responding were EHT EMS, EHT Police.
