On July 30, 2016, the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department laid to rest ex-Chief Ludwig G. Meyer with a Firefighters Send-off.
For all who knew Chief Meyer, one thing was certain, the brotherhood was his family. During his time at home with hospice care, endless calls came in from across the states and from Germany. The brothers and sisters from Highland, Lindenhurst, Freeport, Baldwin, Long Beach, all stopped by to visit with him while he was home.
During his service at St. Peters Church in Baldwin, the pews were filled with firefighters in Class A uniform paying their respects. Taps sounded in the air another reflecting his military service. On Chief Meyer’s last ride he passed under the colors on Grand Boulevard as the brotherhood rendered a hand salute. The procession in his honor was more than anybody could have hoped for. Ludwig would have loved it. “God Bless you all,” said my mother
And still, the brotherhood stops by and checks on the family. On behalf of the Meyer family, thank you.
