On September 26, 2015, Haverhill firefighters were dispatched to a reported porch fire on South Main Street in the Bradford section of the city. Companies observed heavy smoke in the distance, followed shortly by Deputy Tarpy’s arrival and immediate request for a second alarm. He reported heavy fire coming from the rear of a 2-1/2 story, wood frame dwelling. Firefighters from several communities responded to the scene. After an aggressive interior attack, firefighters were evacuated from the building due to heavy fire conditions in the attic and through the roof. The home suffered significant damage and firefighters were able to rescue both of the homeowner’s cats, one of which was saved well into the fire by members of Salem (NH) Ladder 1.
