Two people were killed and one critically burned during a fire in Teaneck on February 19, 2024. The Teaneck Fire Department responded to reports of a fire on Palisades Avenue with people trapped. On arrival, companies encountered a working fire in a basement apartment and transmitted a second alarm. Three victims were quickly located and removed to EMS. With companies heavily engaged, command requested a third alarm. The fire, which was quickly knocked down, was placed under control in 30 minutes. Two of the victims were pronounced DOA at the hospital and the third was transferred to St. Barnabas burn unit in very critical condition. The fire was under investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutors Arson Squad, Teaneck Fire Prevention Bureau and Teaneck Police.
