Asharoken Village Police responded to a boat collision on July 3, 2015, in Duck Island Harbor. The collision involved a 22-foot vessel that struck a row boat with two persons on board. The two occupants of the row boat jumped overboard moments before their boat was struck. The Northport Fire Department Rescue Squad transported one patient to Huntington Hospital, where he was later released. The row boat was severely damaged and sank following the collision. The operator of the Mastercraft boat was issued two summonses — one for operating a vessel without an Asharoken Village waterski permit and another for unsafe boat operation. The 22-footer was towing two people on wakeboards at the time of the collision. The operator, four passengers and the two wakeboarders were uninjured. Asharoken Police Officer-in-Charge Ray Mahdesian is pictured inspecting damage to the row boat.
