The North Babylon Fire Company responded to a single-vehicle MVA on the westbound Southern State Parkway west of Belmont Avenue. Chief of Department Harrington, Engines 1-8-1 and 1-8-2, Ladder 1-8-6, Ambulances 1-8-7 and 1-8-14 responded. The driver of an SUV went off the road and struck a tree causing the vehicle to catch fire. The engine crews stretched one line and had the fire extinguished quickly. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, along with one North Babylon member who suffered an ankle injury at the scene.
