Just before 9:30 a.m. on September 1st, crews from Overland Park and Olathe Fire Departments responded to a house fire at 127th Place and Bond. First units on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire from the front of a two-story, single family home with two cars on fire in the driveway and the occupant reported out safely.
Firefighters initially attacked the fire from the exterior, knocking down the bulk of the fire, while additional crews entered the home to search and fight the fire inside. Firecrews encountered fire on the second floor and in the attic of the home. Access was complicated by numerous contents in the home. A second alarm was called for additional resources.
One adult female was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fire damage to the structure is significant. The resident will be displaced but has other housing options. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
