On May 9, 2016, the Memorial Fire Company of Slaughter Beach was dispatched for a water rescue with subjects in the water. Bowers and South Bowers rescue boats plus the DSP Helicopter Trooper 2, Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware Air Rescue Team in DSP Helicopter Trooper 5 also responded. With the Slaughter Beach fireboat not in service, Chief Terry Jester requested the services of the Delaware Bay Launch Service craft. Captain Dave Brown had the boat Big Stone Express ready when the rescue crew arrived. Trooper 2 personnel threw a life ring to one victim; the other had been rescued by a passing fishing boat. When the Big Stone Express arrived at the capsized boat, rescuers entered the water and retrieved the victim. Both were suffering from hypothermia, were treated by EMTs and transported.
