The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, assisted by Arlington, Fairview and Mobile Life Paramedics, recently operated at a structure fire with exposures involved on North Hamilton Street. As firefighters arrived, there was an individual needing assistance in the window of the fire building and, as Ladder 2’s crew set up, the individual disappeared. Fortunately, Poughkeepsie Firefighter Matt Doherty was able to reach into the window and locate the individual on the floor and pull him to safety. Firefighters also had to deal with two additional active fires on Main and North Hamilton Streets as a result of radiant heat from the initial fire. All three fires were extinguished. The cause was under investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie Police and Fire Departments.
