On May 29, 2024, at 1900, Charleston Fire Station 8 “Dogtown” welcomed home their new medic unit. CFD Medic 438 was pushed into the station to honor the timeless tradition of the fire service. The ceremonial push in dates to the 1800s when crews returned from a call on horse-drawn equipment, and the animals were unable to push back into the fire station. This meant that the crews had to detach the horses and physically push the equipment back into the bay. We would like to thank the citizens and leadership of City of Charleston, WV, for their continued support. If you see Medic 438 on the streets of Charleston make sure to check out their specialized Dogtown license plate.
