Mount Vernon firefighters were dispatched to Cottage Avenue for a dwelling fire. On arrival, crews found heavy smoke showing from the basement and first floor of the home. A second alarm was struck due to the large size of the balloon frame home. Lines were stretched and crews made an aggressive push into the basement where they were able to quickly knock down the main body of fire.
