The Melville Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire at a residence on Bagatelle Road near the North Service Road on September 14, 2016. Firefighters arrived to find two fully involved cars in the driveway of the home. The fire appeared to have started in a car that was connected to a battery charger. The blaze spread to a second car that was parked nearby, destroying both vehicles. A third car sustained minor damage. About 20 firefighters and rescue personnel responded with two engines, two ambulances and a first responder unit, under the command of Assistant Chiefs Paul Mahler and David Kaplan. There were no injuries reported and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad was investigating.
