Firefighters from Athens battled an early morning structure fire which ripped through the Catskill Masonic Lodge. According to Chief Tim Farrell, the structure was fully involved on arrival. West Athens, Earlton, Coxsackie and Leeds responded with tankers on mutual aid. The Catskill Volunteer Fire Department also ran a 1,700-foot hose from the scene to a pond outside the West Athens firehouse. The blaze did not spread beyond the lodge.
