Springfield (MA) firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Maple Street and Central Street for a confirmed working fire that involved six addresses of three-story structures and heavy fire and smoke on the A, D and C sides. Multiple 2-1/2 inch lines were put in operation along with two ladder pipes, and a second alarm was struck. Truck 1 set its tower up on the C side and knocked down flames with its master stream. Crews battled until midnight to bring the fire under control and remained on scene for a prolonged time. The large structure was vacant and the fire was kept to the end addresses of the six-apartment row house. The fire was under investigation by the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad.
