In the early morning, the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, along with mutual aid companies, operated on the scene of a working fire on Madison Avenue off 5th Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy fire showing from the top floor of a three-story private dwelling. Firefighters put at least two handlines into operation to extinguish the fire. The scene was placed under control within an hour from the time of the alarm. All occupants made it safely out of the residence and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
