The Kings Park Fire Department responded to a building fire of the grounds of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Facility on January 1, 2016. Upon arrival, firefighters found Building 18, previously used as an employee’s residence, fully involved. Mutual aid companies from Commack and Smithtown were called to assist at the scene. The Suffolk Police and Smithtown Fire Marshal were investigating the cause, which appeared to be suspicious.
