The members of the Islip Terrace Fire Department performed the final salute to their fallen brother ex-Captain and sitting Commissioner Anthony Maieli. Due to the current restrictions with the Covid-19 pandemic, Firematic services were performed in front of the Islip Terrace firehouse.
Tony was an active member of the department for 32 years. During this time Tony rose through the ranks of Engine Company 2 and was Captain from 1991 to 1994. He then went on to serve multiple terms as a Commissioner of the District up until the time of his passing on May 22, 2020.
Tony was also instrumental in resurrecting the Fire Police Squad of the Islip Terrace Fire Department which had been discontinued in 1968. He served as Captain of the Fire Police from 2009 to 2019.
Outside of his fire services Tony loved spending time with his wife Rose, his three sons Anthony, Brian (Amy) and Steven (Barbara) and grandchildren Mason, Fiona, Anthony, Christopher and Nicholas. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Tony.
