SUFFOLK FIRE & RESCUE OPERATES A TECHNICAL RESCUE AT 4800 BLOCK NANSEMOND PARKWAY

 

SUFFOLK, Virginia (August 7, 2023): Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to
the 4800 Block of Nansemond Pkwy for an industrial accident. Emergency Communications
dispatched the incident at 1:23 p.m.

 

EMS 2 and Engine 10 arrived at 1:31 p.m. to a bulldozer that went over the top of a large debris
pile and injured the operator of the bulldozer. The injured operator was assessed, treated, and
packaged by paramedics and due to the steep incline and elevation of the debris pile, a
coordinated rope extraction of the injured operator, a technical rescue, occurred by firefighters.
The technical rescue was completed at 2:01 p.m. The single injured operator was transported
with serious injuries to a local hospital. The Suffolk Department of Fire & Rescue’s Fire
Marshal’s Office and Suffolk Police are investigating the cause of the industrial accident. There
were no injuries to rescuers.

 

Responding units included Car 1, Battalion 2, Engine 10, Ladder 11, Rescue 1, Medic 5, Utility
4, Fire Marshals 1-7.
