Paterson’s 2nd Battalion was dispatched to Van Houten Street for a house fire. Dispatch advised they were receiving numerous calls with a possible entrapment. On arrival, heavy smoke was visible from the rear of a vacant 2-1/2 story building. The chief confirmed a victim was trapped on the first floor. A second alarm was quickly transmitted, as crews forced entry into the building and worked on removing the victim who was quickly rescued and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Command reported the fire knocked down in about 20 minutes with extensive overhaul.
