On November 1, 2016, Wilmington City firefighters on the A-Platoon were dispatched to W. 39th Street for a building fire. Upon arrival, units found a two-story end-of-the-row dwelling with heavy fire showing from the rear. First arriving companies deployed handlines through the interior and began an aggressive interior attack. The fire destroyed the second floor deck area and extended into the attic where there were a large amount of combustible materials. Three adult occupants and five cats survived the fire and three cats were rescued by firefighters. Approximately 29 fire and EMS personnel responded to this incident. Responding: Squrt 3, Squad 4, Engine 5, Sky-Boom 2, Ladder 1, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Medics, Wilmington Police Department, Wilmington License and Inspection, Delmarva Power and the Delaware Red Cross.
