The Hanson (CT) Fire Department responded to Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area for a report of a horse stuck in the mud. Companies located the horse and uninjured rider within the maze of trails. The Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team, was activated with their large animal rescue equipment. Veterinarians with the team also responded to assist with sedating the animal while crews worked to freeit. A Hanson Water Department backhoe was used as a crane to safely lift and move the animal. “Libby”, a 13-year-old horse walked out of the woods with the help of its owner to make a full recovery.
