On October 7, 2016, the Stony Brook University Fire Marshals were called to the co-generation plant for a worker down. Upon arrival, it was determined that a high-angle rescue operation would be needed to remove the worker, who landed on a platform several stories up, after a fall from a fixed ladder leading to the roof. A request was made for the Stony Brook Fire Department, along with the Brookhaven Town Technical Rescue Task Force to respond to the scene for assistance with the operation. Through a combined effort between the Stony Brook University Fire Marshals, Stony Brook Ambulance, the Stony Brook Fire Department, along with the Brookhaven Town Technical Rescue Team (BTTRT), the worker was removed from the facility and transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment.
