Minutes into July 4, 2017, the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a Willow Avenue address for a report of smoke coming from the roof of a two-story private dwelling. Moments later firefighters found fire on the number 3 side of the home. Two lines were put into operation — one through the front door and the other to a setback in the rear. The scene was placed under control within 40 minutes. All units were under the command of Hempstead Chief of Department Fred Sandas.
