Edward J. Crean, Jr., passed away on March 24, 2015, aged 80. Crean joined the Hauppauge Fire Department on October 3, 1966, was Chief of the Department in 1979-1980, Commissioner for 33 years and the Benevolent Association Treasurer from 1982 to 2015.
Born in Brooklyn on May 23, 1934, he was a US Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Midway from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean War.
He was married to his beloved wife, Diane, for 53 years, had six children and 20 grandchildren. A family man and beloved husband, he loved golf, loved serving his community, and was known as a leader who knew what he stood for, possessed of a great laugh and a huge spirit.
