Late on June 24, 2016, Paterson Fire Alarm transmitted the box for a possible fire in the area of E. 26th Street and 14th Avenue. Upon arrival of Battalion 2, a large, vacant, three-story frame dwelling with heavy fire blowing out the second-floor windows was encountered. Companies attempted an interior attack as the exposures were evacuated, but command quickly called for an evacuation and requested a second alarm as heavy fire was extending into the attic. With numerous handlines and a ladder pipe in operation, Deputy 3 established a collapse zone, a command which proved to be correct as, approximately 40 minutes into the fire, the entire front section of the building at the third-floor level collapsed into the street. No one was injured. The main body of fire was knocked down in just over an hour.
