On August 16, 2016, Hagerman firefighters responded to the Patchogue Shores Marina where boats were on fire. Suffolk County fire officials received a call reporting a fire at Patchogue Shores Marina, also known as the Shores Yacht Basin. The Hagerman Fire Department responded to the scene on Cornell Road and found a major blaze involving boats and the marina. With the help of mutual aid from Patchogue, North Patchogue, Bellport, Medford, Brookhaven, South Country Ambulance, Mastic EMS, Shirley EMS, the SCPD Marine Unit and the Coast Guard, the fire was extinguished, but then rekindled the following morning. Firefighters from Hagerman, Bellport and North Patchogue responded to put out the rekindle. It was reported that three firefighters suffered injuries, with one transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment. The cause of the blaze was under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal’s Office and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad.
