SUFFOLK, Virginia (August 30, 2023)

Suffolk Fire & Rescue units responded Wednesday
afternoon, August 30, 2023, to a commercial structure fire at large commercial business and
warehouse in the 1200 block of Progress Road. Emergency Communications was contacted at
3:32 p.m. and the first unit arrived on scene at 3:37 p.m.

Firefighters found moderate smoke in the business’ large warehouse. The business was
occupied at the time of the fire and all employees and personnel evacuated safely. The fire was
contained to the service drop and electrical service room in the warehouse of the business.
Moderate smoke filled the warehouse and once the power to the building was secured by
Dominion Virginia Power, crews were able to start to ventilate the smoke from the warehouse.
Fire damage was contained to the main power feed and room that contained the panel boxes
and no fire extension was found outside of the main power feed and the room that contained
the power panel boxes. The fire was placed under-control at 4:30 p.m. No injuries to
firefighters or employees are reported. Ventilation continues in the warehouse area of the

The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is leading an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
The fire is considered electrical in nature and is not considered suspicious.

Responding units included Car 1, Car 6, Battalion 1, Engine 3, Engine 1, Engine 6, Engine 10,
Ladder 3, Ladder 6, Medic 3, Rescue 1, EMS 1, Safety 1, and Fire Marshals 1, 2, 6, and 7.
