Overland Park, Kansas:

Crews from Overland Park Fire conducted a neighborhood smoke alarm canvas in the 103rd blk. of Westgate, immediately surrounding the home where two people tragically lost their lives in a house fire this week. Fire investigators believe there were no working smoke alarms in the home.

Today, crews went door to door, offering to check neighbor’s smoke alarms, changing their batteries and even installing alarms for those in need. They answered questions and attempted to calm fears in the neighborhood. This is one small way to bring some good out of the tragedy.

Firefighters visited almost 50 homes and left information on the front doors, if no one was home. If you have questions or need assistance with smoke alarms, call your local fire department for help. Smoke alarms are the cheapest form of life insurance you can buy.
