TWO ALARM COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE 

SUFFOLK, Virginia (May 31, 2022): Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 400 Block of S.
Saratoga Street, at Suburban Investments, for a two-alarm commercial structure fire.
Emergency Communications dispatched the incident at 7:35 p.m.

Battalion 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1, Medic 1 arrived at 7:39 p.m. to find heavy smoke
showing from the front roll-up door and the roof. Upon investigation, an 8,000-gallon
processing tank containing recycled oil was on fire in the rear of the commercial building. With
2,000 gallons of product on fire, a second alarm was requested by Battalion 1 due to the size of
the building and the amount of fire in the tank. While crews attacked the fire from the interior,
ladder crews vented the roof above. The rescue company performed a search of the building
and all searches were negative. There is heavy fire to the processing vat and area above the
processing tank and smoke damage to the entire mobile home. The business was occupied at
the time of the fire. There are no injuries were reported by firefighters or occupants. The Fire
Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Virginia Department of
Emergency Management was notified and did not respond. The fire was placed under control
at 8:17 p.m. Suffolk Police provided traffic control and assisted in the investigation.
