The Setauket Fire Department responded to a mid-morning call on Franklin Avenue off Pond Path. Crews arrived to a house fully involved. Access to a hydrant just across the street provided quick reaction, but a second hydrant was over 1200 feet away. Damage to the house was severe, requiring its demolishment after the flames were extinguished. While the cause was unknown, the single-family house was apparently used for a business operation. The business may have been manufacturing printer ink cartridges. A large amount of shipping material also appeared to have been feeding the fire. There were no injuries reported. Mutual aid came from Stony Brook, St. James, Centereach, Port Jefferson, Terryville, Stony Brook Volunteer Ambulance Company and Port Jefferson EMS.
