FDNY HOLDS PROMOTION CEREMONY FOR 41 EMS LIEUTENANTS AND 5 PARAMEDICS
New York, New York:
FDNY held a promotion ceremony for 41 EMS Lieutenants and five Paramedics on Monday, October 24, at the FDNY Training Academy, Field House, Randall’s Island.
“Our Emergency Medical Service members are essential to keeping our city safe. Every day, they perform lifesaving acts for New Yorkers, no matter the circumstances,” said Acting Commissioner Kavanagh. “These new Lieutenants and Paramedics are highly trained and will bring their leadership and lifesaving medical skills to each call they respond to.”
41 EMS Lieutenants will now take on supervisory roles, providing first-line supervision for the EMTs and Paramedics in the field.
Five EMTs were promoted to Paramedic. Paramedics are trained to provide the highest level of pre-hospital care, and have extensive training in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology, as well as many critical lifesaving skills, such as: intravenous therapy and medication administration; EKG monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation; and advanced airway management.
The new Lieutenants and Paramedics will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
