On May 18, 2016, the Centereach Fire Department was activated for a residential structure fire on Minerva Lane. Centereach dispatch received reports of smoke and explosions from the house. Upon arrival, commanding units were met with heavy smoke showing. Mutual aid was requested from Farmingville and Ronkonkoma. One person was removed from the house and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Command requested a fire marshal and the arson squad to the scene to investigate.
