A fatal three-alarm fire broke out in Upton on April 14, 2016. Crews responded to a 2-1/2 story wood frame house on Main Street, which had been converted into apartments. The house was built in 1839 and was of balloon frame construction. The fire appeared to have started in a first-floor rear apartment, which was where the fatality occurred. The cause was under investigation by local police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
