The North Lindenhurst Fire Department and Suffolk County Police responded to an accident at New Highway and Albany Avenue on August 23, 2016. A full-size pickup truck and medium sedan collided, trapping the driver of the sedan. The crew from Heavy Rescue 1-11-5 used multiple cutters to remove the roof of the vehicle and extricated the driver in about 10 minutes. The driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the pickup was uninjured. First Assistant Chief Steiger was in charge of the scene.
