On Sunday, January 21, 2024, Fairville (Newark, NY) Firefighter Daniel S. DeWolf responded to the scene of a chimney fire. While attempting to establish a water supply line, he collapsed. EMS on scene immediately initiated CPR. Firefighter DeWolf was then transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He was 52.

Dan was a dedicated welder/fabricator throughout his career, most recently showcasing his excellence at Halstead Machine. However, it was his selflessness and humble nature that truly defined him. Dan was a silent force for good, consistently helping others without seeking recognition. He demonstrated this generous spirit as a 33-year member of the Fairville Fire Department, where he served as a past Chief. His contributions were immeasurable, earning him the prestigious Fireman of the Year award multiple times, and he tirelessly undertook various tasks for the department during his long and impactful tenure.

Dan will be remembered by his son, Chet DeWolf; his granddaughter, Addyson DeWolf; his mother, Betty DeWolf; siblings, Edward Jr. (Renee) DeWolf and Greg (Tammy) DeWolf; a sister-in-law, Carol Austin; his nieces and nephews Allison, Mitchell (Alissa), McKenzie, Aliza, Christina, Rebecca, Jeffrey, and Aleisha; and many friends.
