On Christmas Eve 2015, Elsmere Fire Company and surrounding area companies were alerted for a building fire at Serpes Bakery in Elsmere, a landmark in town since 1964. Unit 168 (Jim Facciolo) was first on scene and found fire showing through the roof. During the fire units were pulled from the roof and the
interior due to what appeared to be a possible roof collapse. Once deemed safe, the units were put back inside to extinguish the fire. Units were on scene for over six hours. Responding to the fire were:
Five Points, City of Wlimington, Wilmington Manor, Belvidere, Christiana, Mill Creek, NCC Paramedics, Delaware State Fire Marshals, dozens of Fire Police who handled traffic in and around the affected area, and the ladies of Stations 14 and 16, who provided water at the scene.
