The Eastport Fire Department paid their final respects at a burial service for forty-seven year member and Ex-chief Theodore “Teddy” Worthington. The burial was held at the Quogue Cemetery on Monday, February 26. Teddy first joined the Eastport Fire Department in 1974 as a junior fire department member. Due to his service in the juniors, he was able to join the Eastport Fire Department at the age of 17. On August 9, 1976, he became a probationary member and went on to proudly serve the Eastport community for forty-seven and a half years. He joined the officers’ ranks as a lieutenant in 1981. The next year he was elected as a Captain and was also chosen as the Firefighter of the Year. His drive carried him through the officers’ ranks and in 1985 he became Chief of the Department, a position he held he held until April of 1988. After leaving the chiefs’ ranks Teddy took on the role of Assistant Secretary in 1990. He also served as Treasurer of the department from 1991 until 1995.
