On November 20, 2016, the Garfield Fire Department responded to Cambridge Street for reported wires down. The call quickly escalated as live wires had been taken down by a tree and were laying in close proximity to a home and vehicle. Companies had to wait for the arrival of PSE&G as the fire quickly spread throughout the home. A second alarm was struck bringing in mutual aid from surrounding cities as companies fought the fire in near freezing temperatures. The fire was brought under control within two hours.
