The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to an MVA involving a motorcycle and police vehicle on the Long Island Expressway near exit 51, on August 24, 2016. Dix Hills Rescue Squad EMTs assisted the injured motorcyclist and police officer. The motorcyclist was transferred to a Suffolk Police medevac, and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. The officer was transported to Huntington Hospital by Dix Hills Ambulance.
