On August 3, 2026 at 0633 hours, Troutman Fire Rescue was dispatched for a minor fuel spill on Houston Road by Narroway Lane. The first arriving unit found a tanker truck on its side with a fuel leak from its saddle tank and an active leak of product from the tank. Firefighters stopped the fuel spill and tried to contain the leaking product from the tank, which was determined to be some kind of liquid plastic. Mooresville Fire Rescue’s Hazardous Materials unit was special called to the scene. The chemical leaking from the tank was determined to be Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate commonly known as DEHP, a synthetic chemical added to plastics to make them soft and flexible. Ultimate Towing and Recovery crews pumped out the saddle tanks and up-righted the tanker from the ditch it was in without further incident.
