Central Arizona Fire Medical Authority Fire Chief Scott Freitag

The Arizona Fire Chiefs Association is proud to announce that Central Arizona Fire Medical Authority Fire Chief and AFCA current President Scott Freitag was awarded the 2022 Alan V. Brunacini Chief Officer of the Year Award.

The award is presented to a fire chief who is nominated by their peers for outstanding work and commitment to the Arizona fire service. Chief Freitag was nominated by Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon.

“Chief Freitag courageously lead the Arizona Fire service through the recovery of the pandemic while tirelessly advocating for Fire Districts and Municipalities ability to execute their missions on behalf of their citizens and visitors,” wrote Chief Shannon. “He took a point position on important legislative efforts that directly impact Arizona residents and visitors. His commitment to the public health and welfare of our communities was extraordinary.”

Chief Shannon continued, “I have had the privilege of working side by side with Chief Freitag during his time as President and cannot recall a more influential leader of the Arizona Fire Chiefs Association on both its members and constituents. He has set the bar high for continued advocacy.”

Chief Freitag received his award during the opening ceremonies of the Arizona Fire Chiefs Association/Arizona Fire District Association Summer Leadership Conference in Glendale, Arizona, on July 12, the Glendale Renaissance Hotel Ball Room.
